Big changes are afoot! After 40 years of commitment to the practice and then teaching of Iyengar Yoga in my local community, it is time for me to take a step back and hand over the teaching of my wonderful classes to my colleague, Vanita.
From September, Vanita takes over and will be offering a mix of classes at Ampthill Methodist Church and online, zoom, classes for those students who need to continue isolating or prefer not to meet up with others, socially-distanced, just yet.
The restarting of classes at the Church is planned for the Autumn if safe to do so. The programme of classes is in the process of being finalized by Vanita, so watch this space! New students will be welcomed either at the hall or on zoom.
Meanwhile, I shall continue to teach individuals at their home, who either need help with a particular health or physical concern or for some reason are unable to attend classes. Again, this can be on zoom also.
News: Successful Open Day to Celebrate National Iyengar Yoga Day
Our open day on 13th January to mark National Iyengar Yoga Day was well attended and there was a great atmosphere throughout the day. Complete beginners enjoyed a taster session, watched a demonstration by experienced practitioners and took home a free class voucher. The film of BKS Iyengar explaining and performing advanced asanas was inspirational!

Yoga is an ancient series of exercises originating from India. These exercises or ‘asanas’ as they are known improve physical health and well-being by improving posture and flexibility, increasing strength and general fitness. Anyone can attend a yoga class no matter what their age or fitness level.
Classes are taught in a large hall (pictured left) at the Ampthill Methodist Church in the centre of town. This is an ideal venue as it is spacious and clean, with the added benefit of access to an equipment store with everything on hand that is needed to practise yoga to the best of a student’s abilities.
Remember, you need not be fit or flexible when you start yoga classes, but you can look forward to becoming fitter and more flexible once you get started!
Comments from current students:
“Invest in yourself. Join Sue’s yoga class. I was made very welcome. All ages and body shapes in the class. Keep the body you have or get the body you want. Sue is a fantastic teacher. A great combination of talent and patience. I should have found Sue and Yoga years ago”
“Under the guidance of Sue your body will be more flexible, your joints more free and your mind will have the opportunity to find inner peace.”
“When an asana is done correctly the body movements are smooth, there is lightness in the body and freedom in the mind”
- B.K.S Iyengar
